JAY
CAPRON
I
was born and raised in Lockport, Illinois and attended Providence
Catholic High School in New Lenox. I then moved to the Windy
City and enrolled at the University of Illinois at Chicago
and attained a B.A. in Communications in 2003. I interned
at WGN-TV with Dan Roan and Rich King before taking a position
as Program Director of KNIA/KRLS in Knoxville, Iowa. I spent
two years in Iowa and married my college sweetheart Devon
(Campbell) in August of 2006.
I joined
the WCSJ/WJDK news team as News Director in August of 2007.
I am an
avid Chicago White Sox and Oakland Raiders fan. I originally
wanted to become a zoologist but ran into a roadblock in college
called Advanced Chemistry. It was then that I turned my efforts
to radio.
My uncle
Joe Starkey was the play-by-play voice of the San Francisco
49ers until 2009 and you may know him from his famous call
during a Cal/Stanford football game, when the band ran out
on the field at the end of the game: "THE BAND IS ON THE FIELD!"
He is still the play by play voice of the Cal Bears football
team.
I have
another uncle with college football ties --- Dan Capron is
a Big Ten football referee.
My favorite
pastimes are walking with my wife and son (Jack), and my dog,
a Weimaraner named Slater.
I enjoy,
fishing, camping, and softball. My favorite food is Chicago-style
deep-dish pizza.
